Safariari (Jon Kristian Furuheim) first tumbled into the music world
when his debut album “Save new York ” was released the day before
Sept. 11 2001 – with cover art showing New York skyline. The album
obviously had to be pulled from stores the day after release.. It was
later released with a new cover and named “Zebra knights”, finally
receiving the musical attention it deserved. It was an instant electronic
classic, nominated for electronica album of the year, and made the top
10 list of the year's best albums in one of Norway 's largest newspapers
Dagbladet. His follow-up “Goaway” (2004) was received no less
enthusiastically with top reviews in the largest Newspapers and
extensive radioplay. In 2006 he combined forces with Andreas Ihlebaek
for the joint electropop project Splaxxter Watts, which was hailed as “the
best pop music this country has produced in God knows how long”
and nominated for Norwegian Grammy.

Igloodisko

Some of Safariari's third solo album Igloodisko was recorded in Norway,
but Safariari suddenly got the urge for new impulses, packed his bags
and recording-equipment, moving to Nakano,Tokyo, where he finished
up most of the album. Nakano is where one of his great inspirations
Ryuichi Sakamoto (Yellow Magic Orchestra etc.) was born and grew up,
and Safariari's base/recording studio in the middle of Tokyo's neon and
asphalt jungle, became an old wooden two stories building surrounded by
a shabby garden, where bird twitter and the noise of the city combined into
a constant wall of sound. Here his Scandinavian nu-disco and fascination
for Japanese music and culture merged into an instrumental disco joyride!
The last touches on the album where made in New York before Safariari
returned to Norway with a finished Igloodisko in the bag, ready to unleash
the iglooparty on us all!
